A Curtain into a Skirt!

This curtain is made of the most amazingly soft fabric. And I love the color. I am going to make my first circle skirt out of this fabric!

DIY Circle Pattern

I absolutely adore skirts, so I made a pattern for a Circle Skirt......

Were the instructions easy to follow? This was a very simple top to make.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?: n/a

GAG Sewing Gift!

My brother is a die-hard Steelers fan. When I saw this fabric, I knew I had to make him something to rep his team. He gets on FaceBook, and gets into all kinds of fun arguments about his team. Well this year, he is going to have his own Dashiki to wear. I know it is going to be hilarious! Almost finished making this. Will post pics soon.

So...yesterday was the beginning of JoAnn's sale on Butterick patterns. $1 for a pattern. I think I walked out with 11....only 11, lol. The sale is on for the next couple of days but I will not get anymore. I have enough patterns for now.
I'm going to learn how to alter patterns to make them unique. Learning a lot from sister-sewers!

I'm sitting here licking my wounds. The project that I wanted to do isn't going to happen. I have 2 yards of the fabric. Pattern calls for 2 1/8 yds. I thought I could manipulate the pattern pieces, but I finally gave up. I will look for  another dress pattern for the fabric.
Note to self....love fabric but don't have plans for it?? buy at least 3 yards!

So the plan tonight was to cut out my pattern pieces and fabric. Started cutting  out the pattern only to realize my house scissors were kind of dull. And I only cut fabric with my fabric scissors. So, off to Lowes down the street to get a pair of scissors and washer weights to hold my fabric down. Came back home and cut out the pattern pieces. I will try to get the pieces cut out tomorrow. I am excited to see the finished product.
Oh, I never used to pre-wash my fabrics but I have really been educating myself about sewing from some of the BEST...so if the fabric doesn't require dry cleaning, I will pre-wash it. If it requires dry cleaning, I will run it through the dryer with Dryel. My intention is to take my sewing to a whole new level. I hope to sew with 'sewing friends' too!

My NEXT Project

When I
found this fabric, it was love at first sight. It reminded me of the 70's. I just had to have it. Finally figured out what I am going to make out of it. I am going to make this dress, knee length.

OOPS!

Hmmmm. I seem to have bought 2 of the same pattern x 2.  Well, I will use those for a contest in the future!

JoAnn's Pattern Stash!

This past week was the 70th Anniversary sale at JoAnn's Fabrics. Woo hoo! McCall Patterns were  70 cents each!
I went several times and I now have a serious stash of patterns.

Getting Started!!

Greetings...
My name is Tanya and my intention is to share my sewing journey with you. About 2 weeks ago, I realized that I have been  spending quite a bit of money on clothes lately. The reason is that I have recently lost 25 pounds. And I still would like to lose another 20 or so pounds. I am on a  mission to get my body down to a healthy size and keep it there! I recently had a battle with breast cancer, which thank God, is behind me. Now it is time for me to make some serious changes in my life!

I decided to call this blog "Soulful Sewing" because not only am I sewing so that I will have new clothes; I am also sewing because I find it a very peaceful and fulfilling craft that allows me to connect to an inner sense of tranquility.

I'm excited to get started. I dug out my sewing machine, small fabric stash, and started sewing!

The first thing I sewed was a very simple stretch pencil skirt. It is a DIY skirt by MimiG.
